Stephen Ministry

"Christ caring for people through people"

When an event shakes up your world. When you need someone to walk with you through a difficult time. New West Church has "Stephen Ministers" who are trained to provide confidential, one-on-one care giving.

Stephen Ministers listen. Stephen Ministers share God's love and help individuals get through confusion, stress, loneliness or just plain difficult times.

If you need a Stephen Minister please call the church office or speak to any elder.

Stephen Ministry Training

Each Stephen Minister has received 50 hours of pastoral care training that involves classroom instruction, role-playing, small group exercises and reading.

Topics include:

Feelings: Yours, Mine, and Ours
The Art of Listening
Caring for Older Persons
Caring for those Experiencing Grief and Loss
Confidentiality
Maintaining Boundaries

Who is Stephen Ministry Training For?

Anyone who is interested in gaining some solid helping skills should consider signing up for Stephen Ministry training. The training will enable you to be more effective in any ministry. The skills you learn will be valuable at home and at work. You are encouraged to sign up whether you want to become a Stephen Minister or whether you want to improve your helping skills in your existing ministry.
